About WITS...

Welcome to the trainees' section of the Welsh Intensive Care Society website. Intensive Care Medicine (ICM) as a speciality is going through exciting times. ICM is a relatively new speciality and is evolving very, very rapidly. We in Wales and specifically WITS are excited to be part of this process. With increasing opportunities for training in ICM – at all levels including at pre–registration House Officer level, the speciality is attracting more and more interest and juniors.

WITS was formed for several reasons. Not only do we have regular meetings (free of charge for anyone interested!), but we are also involved in directing policy by sitting on the council of both the STC and the Welsh Intensive Care Society (WICS). As juniors we potentially have a powerful voice especially in the way training is evolving in ICM in Wales. We at WITS are also keen on maintaining contacts through social links etc. The current Chairman is Nick Mason – SpR in Intensive Care Medicine (currently in Cardiff). We hope this section will be a valuable resource for everyone interested in ICM. We envisage that this site will evolve as the specialty itself evolves: tell us what you want! Feedback is always appreciated.

Joining WITS is free and open to any trainee interested in ICM - just ring or email with your contact details. When you are on our list we will keep you up to date with details of educational meetings, social gatherings, training post vacancies and other matters of interest. You will then have the opportunity to raise matters of concern, via the WITS Chairman, with the Welsh Intensive Care Society and the Specialist Training Committee.
